The alcohol

When traveling, alcohol consumption should remain moderate. Alcohol increases the risk of accidents, violence, and risky behavior (especially sexual), and can worsen dehydration, particularly in hot climates. It also contributes to digestive problems and can interact with certain medications. It is recommended to avoid alcohol before driving, swimming, engaging in risky activities, and in unsafe situations.

Consuming homemade or uncontrolled alcohol exposes one to a risk of serious poisoning, particularly from methanol, which can lead to neurological damage, blindness or even death.

Finally, in some countries, alcohol consumption is culturally sensitive or regulated, or even prohibited, and it is important to respect local laws and customs.

Drug addicts

When travelling, the use of drugs or recreational substances exposes one to a number of risks, regardless of the method of consumption (intravenous, oral, inhaled): medical risks, including infectious, psychological, social and legal risks.

The composition and purity of these substances are often unknown, leading to risks of overdose or serious poisoning. Some substances can cause acute or long-term psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, psychotic episodes, or decompensation in vulnerable individuals. Participation in rituals involving psychoactive substances like ayahuasca is also not without risk.

The effects can be unpredictable, exacerbated by fatigue, jet lag, heat, or altitude, and increase the risk of accidents, violence, and risky behaviors (sexual relations, drowning, etc.). Furthermore, there is a risk of drug-facilitated sexual assault with physical and/or sexual violence, regardless of the country visited.

Travelers should familiarize themselves with local laws and regulations related to the use of recreational substances in the countries they plan to visit.
