Update: 2026

For over 120 years, researchers have been working tirelessly to advance research on the diseases that prevent us from aging well. From the very beginning of the Foundation, public generosity has been essential. Today, the Pasteur Institute of Lille still needs your support to go even further. All the scientific advances made within our walls are thanks to the tenacity of our researchers and to all those who generously support our mission.

Over 120 years of support

Inaugurated on April 9, 1899, the Pasteur Institute of Lille celebrated its 120th anniversary. 120 years dedicated to scientific and medical research to shape the health of tomorrow. The support of donors, the first of whom was none other than Dr. Albert Calmette himself, has enabled major advances in the fight against the diseases that prevent us from aging well: cancers, Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, diabetes… It is worth remembering that the first major discovery of the Pasteur Institute of Lille was that of BCG, the famous tuberculosis vaccine, developed by Dr. Calmette and Dr. Guérin in 1919 and first used successfully in young children in 1921.

The Pasteur Institute of Lille, a research foundation dedicated to longevity, continues its daily work towards healthy aging. Its 33 research teams strive to understand the mechanisms of diseases that hinder healthy aging in order to develop the treatments of tomorrow. Since then, fundamental research has been the only hope for improving disease diagnoses and finding future treatments to extend healthy life expectancy.

Through its strategic priorities, the Pasteur Institute of Lille tackles the issue of longevity from various angles, making the foundation an internationally recognized center of expertise. In 2019, the Pasteur Institute of Lille campus comprised 50,000 m² of laboratories, 6 joint research units, 33 research teams, 839 staff members, more than 300 high-ranking scientific publications, 44 patent portfolios, 15,000 health assessments, a €30 million annual budget, and a single objective: To Live Better, Longer.

The Pasteur Institute of Lille, a private foundation recognized as a public benefit organization, needs to raise 75% of its funding. Therefore, without public generosity, current research cannot continue. Donating to the Pasteur Institute of Lille means supporting the fight against disease.

A duty of transparency

The Pasteur Institute of Lille pays particular attention to the transparency of financial data and makes available to all financial reports certified by the auditors.

In 2018, the Pasteur Institute of Lille allocated €27,9 million to its core missions, including research (€16,3 million) and prevention. The €16,3 million research budget breaks down into research on infectious and inflammatory diseases, cancer, drug discovery, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, genetic and metabolic diseases, and the operation of its technological platforms. A member of the Pasteur Institute International Network, and legally and financially independent of other institutes, the Pasteur Institute of Lille is a private foundation recognized as a public-benefit organization since 1898, authorized to receive donations, bequests, and life insurance proceeds.

The Pasteur Institute of Lille needs to find 75% of its funding. The €16,3 million dedicated to longevity research comes from donations, grants, and private funds. In 2018, public generosity amounted to nearly €6,7 million. To continue this research, this figure needs to increase to meet the needs and innovations of the research teams. Indeed, for 120 years, the Pasteur Institute of Lille has been accelerating research and working towards the health of tomorrow—your health and that of your loved ones. This requires significant resources.

Giving in all its forms

Thank you to everyone who mobilizes throughout the year to support the Foundation's teams. Donations, sponsorships, bequests, and fundraising campaigns – there are many ways to contribute to research.

Donations for medical research

Donations enable the Pasteur Institute of Lille to fund its research. Without donations, there is no research. Like most foundations, the foundation's budget depends on public generosity: make no mistake, your donations are essential to the researchers' continued work. Research is a long-term endeavor, and as you know, your donations today lead to tomorrow's discoveries.

There are several ways to donate:

Giving is an opportunity to thank and honor all the women and men who dedicate themselves daily to others and to a better society.

Direct debit: security and peace of mind

Choosing direct debit with fixed payment dates is very easy to set up, frees the donor from a number of administrative formalities, and gives the Pasteur Institute of Lille the financial visibility essential to its work. This support is all the more valuable because it will be sustained over time. Your generosity will have even greater positive impacts by helping to ensure the long-term viability of research.

Transfer of heritage

A bequest, drawn up in a will that takes effect after your death, consists of transferring all or part of your estate (apartment, house, land, commercial premises, whether vacant or occupied, furniture, works of art, jewelry, sums of money, bank accounts, stock or bond portfolios, copyrights, etc.). It is also possible to bequeath life insurance policies. Do not hesitate to contact a notary or the estate planning department of the Pasteur Institute in Lille. Our team is available to answer your questions with complete confidentiality. From the initial idea to its realization, we are by your side to help you build a meaningful plan.
